WINFIELD POlice STATION
The long-anticipated Police Station and Civic Center is the second major phase of Winfield’s Public Safety Facility, completed after the connected Fire/EMS Station phase.
As a Civic Center for public use, this phase includes a Training and Meeting Center with warming kitchen and separate conference room. The Lobby speaks to Winfield’s long history by featuring a timeline mural and historic jail bars uncovered during the renovation of the Fire/EMS station, formerly home to the City Jail.
Overall design focuses on safety and efficiency, with access to daylight for working spaces. Local limestone is used on both the interior and exterior, staying true to the downtown aesthetic of Winfield. Large interior spaces are kept open, with interior glazing and strategic openings to let daylight deep into the building. Durable materials were a design priority to keep the building low-maintenance and fresh for years to come.
Indoor/Outdoor Fitness spaces are shared by Fire and Police Station personnel, allowing for a larger area and variety of high-quality equipment. Other highlights include separate open office areas for Investigations and Patrol, with shared kitchen and resource spaces; high density evidence storage; enclosed sally port; and temporary holding facility.
