WINFIELD FIRE STATION

Created for both Winfield Fire and EMS first responders, the addition and renovation to this historical 1886 fire station houses six drive-thru apparatus bays and maintenance space, and along with the tower and its features, doubles as a training facility for advanced rescue techniques.

To maximize space and efficiency while minimizing costs, the design team focused on adaptable spaces that could change in use. The general layout is designed to assist with response time and promote optimal emergency personnel health. A strong partnership with local firefighters and EMS crews provided invaluable input throughout design.

The exterior stone is sourced with limestone from a local quarry, and glass overhead doors provide light and passive solar heat gain.

Originally designed to house horse-drawn fire wagons in 1886, the Winfield Fire Station has been an icon of this community for over a century. The project successfully balances preservation with functionality.

Designed as the first phase of the Winfield Public Safety Center, the Fire/EMS Station layout is arranged with the connected future Police Station and Civic Center in mind.
